IRCC is the federal department that handles study permits, work permits and other immigration applications, and publishes the official rules.

In more detail

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada is the department of the Government of Canada responsible for immigration applications. For students, it is the body that decides study permits and post-graduation work permits and that publishes the application guides.

When you read advice from a school, an agent, a video or a forum, IRCC's own website is the reference to compare it against. If something differs, the official page prevails.

IRCC does not recruit students or recommend schools. Counselling firms, including ours, are separate organizations and cannot influence an IRCC decision.

Who decides

IRCC is itself the decision maker for immigration applications.

  • Which parts of my plan are decided by IRCC, and which are decisions for the school or for me?
